We are moving into a new paradigm of how we define creativity as we begin to understand how crucially important it is to help us navigate these increasingly dynamic times.
Consider this:
Experts across many different fields are calling creativity the single most crucial skillset/mindset that you can learn to cultivate to thrive in this next decade and beyond.
According to the World Economic Forum, creativity was named one of the “Top 10 Skills” needed for tomorrow’s future.
Another surprising conclusion was discovered in a large study conducted by IBM, surveying 1,500 Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from 60 countries and 33 industries worldwide:
“More than rigor, management discipline, integrity or even vision — successfully navigating an increasing complex world will require creativity.”
If you’re an entrepreneur, leader, or change-maker, and don’t consider yourself to be a “creative person” because you don’t paint, write poetry, play music, or study dance, you’re still living in the old creative paradigm, and it’s time for an upgrade.
If you want to thrive through the decades to come, I urge you to cultivate your capacity to think more creatively. And I believe that psychedelics can help.
One way we can define creativity is the process of making new connections between old ideas. We take things that we already know, rearranging them in a novel way to develop something innovative and original that has some useful purpose.
A new wave of psychedelic research is supporting the perspective that psychedelics can teach us how to think more creatively.
Psychedelic studies (and thousands of anecdotal reports) show that these powerful substances can also foster empathy, openness, a wide range of pro-social behaviors, and deepen our connection with nature. This puts psychedelics in a unique class of their own, when it comes to shaping us into creative change-makers who foster the Bodhisattva spirit.
It’s no coincidence that as we collectively face crisis–on multiple fronts–we are witnessing a remarkable wave of interest in psychedelics. Not surprisingly, these powerful substances rewire our minds, shake up old patterns and outdated ways of being, and offer us a fresh perspective; this is exactly what we need. They help us to open our minds to new ways of looking at the world and at ourselves, so we can perceive possibilities and solutions where we previously saw, lack, limitation and insurmountable challenges.
When used responsibly, psychedelics and sacred plant medicines can be invaluable tools to help us to unlock our capacity to create, innovate and find novel solutions to some of the most significant challenges we now face as we can illuminate hidden paths towards a more harmonious future on this planet.
